The Land

Myanmar, the largest country in main land South-East Asia with a total land area of 676,577 square km, is approximately the size of France and England combined. Three parallel chains of mountain ranges from north to south divide the country into three river systems, the Ayeyarwaddy, the Sittaung and the Thanlwin.

Climate

Myanmar enjoys a tropical monsoon climate with three general seasons: the hot season runs from mid February to mid-May; the rainy season (monsoon) mid February to mid-May to mid-October, and the dry, cool season from mid-October to mid-February.

People

There are 135 national races in Myanmar by official count. The Bama are the majority group, comprising about 65 percent of more than 55-4 million populations. The other main groups are the Shan, Kachin, Chin, Kya, Kayin, Mon and Rakhine with various sub groups that often speak different languages. They preserve their traditions and customs and enjoy festivities that can be seen by both locals and foreigners.

Religion, Culture and Languages

The majority of the people are Buddhists at about 85% and the rest are Christians, Muslims, Hindus and Animists. The people even of small-numbered races live within their own cultures with deep reverence towards their traditions.

Safe destination

The truth is the crime rate in Myanmar is extremely low and virtually none is directed at foreigners. In fact, for tourists it is one of the safest countries in the world to travel in.
