Time

The Myanmar Standard Time is six and a half-hours in advance of GMT.

Passport & Visa

To enter Myanmar all visitors need a valid passport with an entry visor for Tourist. Entry visa can be obtained at Myanmar Embassy/Consulate offices with validity for 28 days.

Currency & Exchange

Myanmar currency is kyat and the kyat notes are 1, 5, 10, 20, 45, 90, 100, 200, 500 and 1000. Foreign Independent Travelers are require to exchange foreign exchange certificate [ FEC ] unit at the fixed rate of US$ 1 = FEC 1. FEC can be changed into Myanmar kyats at market rates of Authorized money changers.

Airport Tax

Tax for departing on international flights is US$10 per person, payable in US dollar.

Electricity

220 V, 50 Hz ( Take Care your electric things! )

Water & Food

Don’t drink the tap water. Go easy to get bottled water. And then be wary of eating food from street stalls.

Feet

Sandals or slippers are more convenient for you. Please, remember to take off all footwear before entering temples and pagodas.

Clothing

Light cotton wear is suitable for all year round. Do not wear shorts, mini slits or sleeveless shirts when visiting religious sites. It is a mark of respect to dress modestly and neatly.

Custom’s for militias on Arrival

Regulations are now generally relaxed for tourists arriving by air in Yangon. Visitors should complete Immigration and customs declaration forms during the flight and submit these on arrival. All foreign currencies [ in excess of US$ 2,000 ]. Traveler’s Cheque and jewelry, cameras and electronic goods etc. must be recorded on the customs form which may be checked on departure. Bringing in or Taking out Myanmar currency is prohibited.

Souvenirs

Best buys include Lacquer-wares, silver, wood and stone carvings, hand-woven silk and cotton
garment or fabrics gems, traditional puppets and tribal handicrafts. Jewelry is generally up to international
standards for design and workmanship. All gem and jewelry purchases should be made through a
government-authorized dealer who must issue an official receipt, which is required for taking out of the
country for such items.
